Every year of birth corresponds to a different level of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO₂), measured in parts per million (PPM).

Born in PPM is an international photographic project created by Mary-Lou Mauricio to illustrate the dramatic acceleration of atmospheric CO₂ concentrations since the Industrial Revolution.

Each participant is photographed holding the CO₂ concentration that corresponds to their birth year. These portraits serve as a visual reminder of the growing impact of fossil fuel combustion despite decades of scientific warnings, while also drawing attention to the issue of climate injustice.

By linking every individual to the environmental conditions of the year they were born, the project transforms scientific data into a personal story, encouraging reflection on our collective responsibility for the future of our planet.
